1944 Born Bristol.
1961-1966 Studied Architecture and Art Education.
1968-1997 Head of Art, Victoria College, Jersey.
1985 Awarded Prize for the ‘Most Outstanding Work by a Non Member’ at the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours Annual Exhibition, London.
1985 Elected a Member of the Royal Institute.
1987 Lectured at the Tate Gallery.
1989 Major Prizewinner at the International Drawing Biennale, Cleveland.
1994 Awarded Prize for the ‘Most Outstanding Work by a Member’ at the R.I. Annual Exhibition.
1999 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (also 1980, ’85, ’94, ’96).
2000 First solo exhibition at Studio 18, Jersey.
2001 Commissioned by the States of Jersey to paint a watercolour used in the Menu for the Official Luncheon given during the visit of Her Majesty the Queen to Jersey.

Retrospective loan exhibition at the Jersey Arts Centre to celebrate thirty-five years working in Jersey.
2006 Appointed M.B.E. ( for 'Services to the Arts')
2007 Loan exhibition of illustrations for poems by Charles Causley, Jersey Arts Centre. Exhibition (withRichard Allen and Derek Crowe) of works held in the Jersey Museum Collection , Sir Francis Cook Gallery, Jersey.

Robert Tilling has illustrated work for, among others, Charles Causley, Spike Milligan and his paintings have appeared in over thirty books and magazines. His jazz, blues journalism has been widely published for over thirty years and he has appeared at many blues festivals as a guitarist.
Represented solely in the Channel Islands by Studio 18, St.Helier, Jersey.
