The Jersey Arts Centre programme is designed to provide the widest range of art, craft, theatre and children's Courses and Workshops - as well as opportunities to learn something very different from visiting tutors and performers.

 Afternoon Painting (18 years +): : Arts and Crafts

Course details: For those people who enjoy painting a variety of different subjects in an exciting and expressive way. Using oils, acrylics, gouache or watercolour, you will be able to develop your own artistic style while also gaining tutor and group feedback.

Please bring: any painting materials of your choice. If you are unsure about materials this can be discussed with the tutor at the first session.

This eight week course will be ideal for both beginners and experienced artists. In a relaxed atmosphere, you will be introduced to a variety of drawing techniques. We will also look at line, tone, perspective and composition.

  
 Experimental Art (18 years +): : Arts and Crafts

Course details: This course is designed for the amateur artist who wants to experiment with different modes of colour and mixed media. The focus this term is on enjoying surface textures and poured paint. Ideal for those who need to free themselves from rigid working practices. Limited resources will be provided within the course fee; however students will need a basic workbox and will be expected to source some more unusual media throughout the course.

  
 Three Day Art Workshop (18 years +): : Arts and Crafts

Course details: The three days will include: sketching and photographing architecture and people in St Helier; planning a painting with images taken from photos and sketches; and painting a picture of an aspect of life in St Helier, using the media of your choice. A list of suggested media will be provided before the three day workshop commences.

Course details: Participants will be taken through the principles of performance, including improvisation, voice and movement. Communication, concentration and commitment are essential disciplines of exciting performance and these will be further explored and developed. Incorporating a multitude of fun drama activities and games, the workshops are also production-led and will culminate with a public performance for family and friends.

A fun week of being creative and artistic, which provides the opportunity to explore particular areas of interest, as well as experimenting with a variety of mediums - from pen and ink, painting, and printing, to working with clay and other sculptural materials. There will be a couple of days of joint project work on a larger scale, with the children being encouraged to come along with their own ideas of subject matter.

A great experience for young people, whether they are aspiring young actors or would simply like to start a new hobby. Throughout the half term week, participants will learn valuable acting techniques, from performing and movement, to improvisation and devising. Students will be able to make use of their new-found acting skills by staging an original piece of theatre for family and friends at 3pm on Friday 19 February.

An ideal course for individuals interested in meeting new friends with similar drama interests to their own, whilst also developing fundamental acting, movement and vocal techniques.

Please bring: suitable clothing and footwear, a packed lunch (lunchtimes will be supervised) and plenty of juice to drink.

Course details: This term, Crafty Kids will be drawing inspiration from fairytales and fables in order to create a myriad of fabulous paintings and sculptures.

Course details: Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages, with over 400 million native Spanish speakers. Spain is also famous for its sun, sand, paella and flamenco, so come along and use your lunch hours to learn essential Spanish that will enable you to have a basic conversation with the locals! Only a limited knowledge of the language is required.

Course details: The main purpose of this course is to prepare yourself for meeting Germans, talking with them in their mother tongue, introducing yourself, making a date, ordering a meal, expressing how you feel, asking the way to the market or buying a ticket. In addition, you will be introduced to some of Germany's most famous (or infamous) sons and daughters, 34 past and present.

Course details: With France being the nearest country to Jersey why not spend your lunchtimes brushing up on your conversational French? With particular emphasis on developing speaking and listening skills, you will learn essential words and phrases for shopping, hotel bookings, travel, eating out and much more.

Students only need a basic understanding of the language.

Course details: This taster course will introduce you to elementary Brazilian/Portugese style, useful for holidays and meeting people. Throughout the week you will learn to say 'hello' and 'goodbye', ask questions about people, talk about yourself and your family, order drinks, ask where places are and how much things cost. If you get along well on this course you can always join Portuguese Speak-in-a-Week Part 2 next term.

Does your Digital SLR camera confuse you? Do you want to understand how to use the features effectively? This course will cover the basics of exposure, composition, depth of field, camera technique and basic image adjustment in Photoshop. We will also have practical sessions to reinforce what we have learned. You will need a Digital SLR camera; a laptop will be beneficial for the Photoshop work but not essential. Course material will be included.

Course details: Have you ever heard someone say: “Someday I will write the story of my life" or “I would like to write my memories but I do not know how to start."

Stories of Life gives you the essential skills to start your life stories as well as tips for organising and archiving your pictures and films. The course also offers a variety of methods for approaching your story, whether a witness of history or a passionate individual. If you still consider your life to be uneventful, the sessions also provide techniques to unveil the magic hidden in your life and the lives of others.
