The Jersey Arts Centre programme is designed to provide the widest range of art, craft, theatre and children's Courses and Workshops - as well as opportunities to learn something very different from visiting tutors and performers.

All our current Courses and Workshops are listed below and in our dedicated brochure available from the Arts Centre, St. James, the libraries and Parish Halls.When you've decided what you want to do you can use the 'Order tickets online' facility or our Box Office can also take credit card bookings by telephone on 700444.

 Swedish Body Massage Sessions (18 years +): :

Course details: Take a break from the daily grind and pressures with this relaxing treatment. Choose a back, neck and shoulder massage to loosen those knots and tensions that come from long hours working at a desk, or a full leg and foot massage for those of you who are on your feet all day.

  
 Sculpting and Creating Accessories (18 years +): : Arts and Crafts

Course details: With the use of Premo and other Polyform clays, in conjunction with Art Clay Silver, students will discover how these modern materials combine to develop creativity, whether as Sculpture, Jewellery or art. Premo clay is an artist's dream come true. Art Clay Silver is a Silver metal clay product which looks and feels and works like clay. Cook it with a conventional heat source and the clay turns to 999 silver. We will work with all the clays and discover creativity we did not know we had. No experience necessary. Basic tools will be provided on the first day, others available for students to purchase as and when needed.

Course details: For those people who enjoy painting a variety of different subjects in an exciting and expressive way. Using oils, acrylics, gouache or watercolour, you will be able to develop your own artistic style whilst also gaining tutor and group feedback.

Please bring: any painting materials of your choice. If you are unsure about materials this can be discussed with the tutor at the first session.

Course details: This is a new course designed with the beginner in mind. Each week, students will have an opportunity to experiment with different media including charcoal, ink and acrylic. We will be working from a variety of different subject matter in a relaxed, supportive environment.

Please bring: a large watercolour sketchbook, a 4B pencil, putty rubber and a selection of brushes.

Course details: This course is designed for the artist who wants to try out different modes of colour and mixed media. Each term, the focus is on enjoying the freedom of creating art by experimenting with textures, print techniques, collage, frottage, unusual tools and surfaces. Ideal for those who need to free themselves from rigid working practises. Limited resources will be provided within the course fee, however students will be expected to source some more unusual media throughout the course.

Course details: Participants will be taken through the principles of performance, including improvisation, voice and movement. Communication, concentration and commitment are essential disciplines of exciting performance and these will be further explored and developed. Incorporating a multitude of fun drama activities and games, the workshops also develop social skills and confidence.

Course details: This term, Artful Doodlers will be going around the planet in 8 weeks. We will look at objects and works of art from around the world to get inspiration, and we will be trying our hand at new techniques in painting, printing, collage, pastels and clay. The last two sessions will be dedicated to Christmas handicrafts.

Course details: A great experience for young people, whether they are aspiring young actors or would simply like to start a new hobby. Throughout the week, participants will learn valuable acting techniques, from performing and movement, to improvisation and devising. Students will be able to make use of their newfound acting skills by staging an original piece of theatre for family and friends at the end of the week: 3pm at St. James.

An ideal course for individuals interested in meeting new friends with similar drama interests to their own, whilst also developing fundamental acting, movement and vocal techniques.

Please bring: suitable clothing and footwear, a packed lunch and plenty of juice to drink.

Please bring: Fun lessons for children who would like to learn more about their Polish background, language and culture. The aim of the course is to deepen and maintain the Polish language and culture as well as enrich their general level of literacy in an exciting way. Lots of activities, riddles, rhymes, songs and poetry with a Polish twist.

Kurs przeznaczony jest dla dzieci z polskimi korzeniami. Celem zaje˛ ´c jest podtrzymanie kontaktu dzieci z polska˛ mowa˛, rozwój umieje˛tno ´sci pisania i czytania oraz krzewienie wiedzy o kraju i kulturze polskiej. Course details: Japanese is a fascinating language which has become a popular subject amongst people wishing to understand more about Japanese culture. Course details: The American poet Robert Frost said 'poetry is a fresh look and a fresh listen', by which he meant, of course, a fresh look at the world around us, and a fresh listen to the language people are using. In this workshop you will be looking at poems that do this, and taking your cue from them, writing in a way that might surprise you. 'If you surprise yourself,' Frost said, 'you just might surprise your reader.'

  
 Belly Dance for Beginners (18 years +): : Music and Performance

Course details: An introduction to the basic technique and rhythms of Egyptian Belly Dance. Learn how to isolate, shimmy and flow hypnotic moves together in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Previous dance experience is not necessary.

Course details: You do not need a fancy camera or lots of big lenses to take a fantastic photograph. Great images can be recorded on a compact camera, and this course will show you how. As well as the practical side to the course, there will also be a small amount of theory involved. The course will culminate in an exhibition of the work of the participants of the course in the Bar Gallery at the Arts Centre.

  
 Intermediate Photography (16 years +): : Photography and Filmmaking

Course details: This course is designed for Digital SLR users that have either completed the beginners course or have a basic understanding of digital photography and wish to take their photography to the next level. We will cover in more depth how to shoot landscapes and action photography and use both on and off camera flash for creative affects. We will also learn how to shoot HDR images, extract the maximum detail and quality from RAW files and use Photoshop to carry out further enhancements.
